Recently, my friends and I pitched in to buy the Amazon Fire TV Stick for our dorm.

We were thrilled to get our hands on an old TV, and It was a smooth ride once we set up the Fire Stick, converting this normal TV to a smart TV.

However, one night when we sat down to watch football, a ‘No Signal’ message popped up on a blank screen.

Being tech-enthusiasts, we eagerly jumped into the problem. After hours of scouring through support forums and articles, we managed to find some troubleshooting techniques to resolve the ‘No Signal’ dilemma.

The Firestick no signal issue arises if your TV is incompatible with HDCP or if the HDMI cables are faulty.

If these are working properly, your Firestick could be damaged. Contact Firestick support for further assistance. Read on to get into the troubleshooting.

Your TV Might Not Be HDCP Compliant

HDCP is an anti-piracy tool that limits digital content from being distributed illegally. Unfortunately, older models of devices may not have this feature.

So, if you have an old TV that is not HDCP compliant, then you cannot use a Fire Stick with it. Sadly, the only perfectly legal solution is to buy a new TV.

You can still use an HDMI splitter to take advantage of the fallback mode that HDCP uses to allow protected content to use a lower resolution for non-compliant setups.

Using an HDMI splitter is perfectly legal if you are not using it to copy and distribute content you don’t have the rights for, so be careful.

Replace any damaged HDMI Cables

More often than not, this error might be because of damaged cables. Make sure they were protected from wear and tear.

Replace any that look damaged. Once that’s done, connect it properly to the HDMI port.

You can also try an alternate port. Remember to use a certified cable.

If you’re sure that the HDMI cables are in good condition, check the HDMI port with other devices.

The problem could be with your port itself. After making sure of that, try different HDMI cables to rule out compatibility issues.

Check to see if your TV’s resolution was inadequate

If that didn’t do the trick, your screen resolution might be the problem here.

Sometimes, the resolution you have selected could be incorrect or incompatible with the Fire Stick.

Choose the highest resolution or ‘auto’ for the best experience.

To change the screen resolution, press the Up and Rewind buttons on your remote together.

Options for different resolutions will be displayed in a menu from which you can select the right one.

Check your Internet connection

The ‘No Signal’ banner may show up if your Internet connection is unstable.

If your Fire Stick isn’t the only device with network issues, contact your ISP for a fix.

In case all your other devices seem to have a good Internet connection, try these tips:

  • Navigate to Settings->Network from the Home Menu and press the Play/Pause button. Here, you’ll find suggested steps. You can use features like Wi-Fi Switch to reconnect your device to the Internet. You’ll also find an option to reboot the Fire Stick.
  • Place your router closer to the Fire Stick.
  • Using a compatible Ethernet adapter, plug in the Fire Stick directly to your modem/router.
  • Reboot the modem/router.
  • If you own a dual-band router, interchange the channels.

In case that doesn’t solve your problem, try to reconnect your Fire Stick by following these steps:

  1. Power off your TV. Unplug the Fire Stick from the HDMI port and its power source.
  2. After 5-10 minutes, plug the Fire Stick back into its power source. Leave it for another 5 minutes.
  3. Turn on your TV. Find an HDMI port in working condition and connect the Fire Stick.
  4. Press any button on the remote.

Reset Your Fire Stick

If you’ve tried all of the above troubleshooting methods, a factory reset is your last hope.

However, keep in mind that you’ll lose all personal data and settings, including in-app purchases.

Follow these steps to perform a factory reset:

  1. Power on your TV and Fire Stick.
  2. Press and hold the Back button and the right side of the navigational circle together for around 10 seconds.
  3. Choose to Continue resetting.
  4. The device will take a few minutes to reset.

Alternatively, you can also reset through Settings. To do that:

  1. Press the Home key on your remote to access the Home screen. Then, select Settings. Use the navigational circle on your remote to move around.
  2. Select My Fire TV after scrolling through the options. If you have an older version of the Fire Stick, this will be indicated as Device or System.
  3. Select Reset to Factory Defaults. Enter your pin if prompted.
  4. Click on Reset. This will take a few moments. You’ll be notified once it’s done.

Do not unplug the devices while the process is going on. Otherwise, you’ll have to start from scratch.
