How to change key fob battery jeep compass

Once, and only once, I got the message that the battery in my key fob was low. Seems premature and it only happened once. Regardless, I looked at my owners manual to find out how to replace the battery. Suffice it to say, the owners manual with over 200 pages of useless information, does not cover something as basic as that.

Does anyone know if/how the battery can be changed? Am I stuck going to my dealer?

Take the key out of the fob, and underneath you'll see a section where you can pry it open with a key, coin, screwdriver, whatever fits. Pop out old battery, pop in new battery, snap halves back together, reinsert key and enjoy.

Available at Batteries and Bulbs, Panasonic CR 2032 3V. If you have them change it they will charge far more than the price of a two pack. Jewelers screw driver or thin knife will separate the halves of the fob.

Page 20 in my book under "getting to know your vehicle", Key Fob. LET ME CORRECT THIS STATEMENT...Page 20 in the PDF version of the manual I got on line. You are correct, I didn't find anything in the paper manual that came with the Jeep on the fob battery...yet.

Going into winter here in Michigan I didn’t want to take any chances on getting stranded. After having issues with both vehicle batteries and having them replaced at the dealership (still under warranty) I changed the fob battery just to be safe. Found a little video online that walked me through it and it took about 5 minutes to get it done. Compass starts like a champ now and I feel at ease even on the coldest mornings now. It’s a very easy process that leads to a lot of peace of mind

I keep a spare fob battery in the rear fuse block area, just in case!

I took my FOB to batteries plus. For something like $20 you can get a lifetime replacement warranty. When you need to replace again, just go to any B+ and easy peasy. The one on my VW GTI only lasts about 6 months and I get the FOB low warning on the dash so the warranty has paid for itself. I'm assuming on the Trailhawk edition ( which I'm getting soon ) the same message appears as well?.

Yes, I got a low fob battery warning a few days ago. That's what instigated this thread. I haven't seen the warning since. Now I keep a spare battery for the fob in my glove compartment.

Electronics in these things are not neat and tidy. I'll want to see that warning consistently before I pry apart my fob. I get warnings to service the stop/start system on maybe a monthly basis. It goes away on the next restart. Same thing with the too cold to function warning -- it will go away after the engine is warm, even if the ambient temperature is well below zero F.

I take mine to the dealer and they replace the battery for free. I could probably do it but if I mess it up it is on my dime. If they mess it up a different story.

I was just getting ready to leave the dealership after the Compass's last oil change when the Key Fob battery low light came on. I got out of the Jeep and asked the service guy. He took me back to the parts department, where the man behind the counter changed out the battery and only charged me for the price of the battery (about $5). The hubby went to the dealer the next week and had them change out the battery in his fob as well. I'd rather have the dealer do the fixes - that way, if they screw up, it's on them and not me. 😆

Thank you for finding and using the search function! Seems so many people just start a new thread. BTW, my low battery warning was a false alarm. I started this thread almost a year ago and I'm still using the same battery.

Recently the presence detector hasn't been consistently unlocking my door when I approach so maybe after 3 years it is time to replace the battery. Where is the sensor on the vehicle itself? My Compass desperately needs a washing so it could be the sensor is all crudded up with road salt.
